The Return Of The Hobbyist

There's no denying that we’re living in a profoundly digital age. All you have to do is look around.

Across all sorts of business and into our personal lives, physical, tangible objects have been replaced by digital, intangible and virtual objects that are in some senses ghosts of the real thing. It’s evident in ad and marketing, and when you sit down in the evening, just think about it.

Just look at music or cryptocurrency or photography, and it's evident that today's digital information age focuses on what you can see and hear, not what you can hold and touch.

With that in mind, some forms of vintage activities are coming back into style because of their tactile nature and the tangible presence of objects in our lives. People want change. In fact, things always change – they never stay the same. They just change slowly.

Not Just Watching TV

For instance, over the past few decades, people got used to spending more and more of their time looking at screens.

First there was television – the idiot box – the “boob tube,” if you will – an invention that commanded the attention of global citizens old and young. Television watching increased, and kept increasing.

Then in addition we got tablets, smartphones, laptop computers and other devices to stare into. Everything reached a high point perhaps in the last decade or so, where it seemed like all people were doing was watching and listening. But again, if you look, that is changing a bit. We are saturated with images and sound, and we want to make deliberate changes.

Building Hobbies

There’s evidence that people are getting tired of all of that screen time, and diversifying their free time into activities that have to do with actual physical interactions. Experts agree that’s good for us in the long run – screens promote sedentary life, and staring at anything too long is a little bit deleterious to our health.

One of those simple old pastimes to move toward is the old traditional model where Cobi offers some unique opportunities to go back to the well and partake in this old custom hobby.

Check out the range of military hardware and other models we have available for building. People of all ages love our designs, and often, they promote family togetherness, a way to spend time with those you love, without sitting around staring at screens. Think about getting started on one of these projects yourself – give it a try!
